San Fernando Rey (Liloan)

Published by Emperor Karl

Lilo-an was established as a parish in January 27, 1845. The church, dedicated to St. Ferdinand III, a king of Spain who united León with Castille and proceeded to conquer most of its Muslim areas, is of neo-baroque style and is made of cut coral stones. The facade is flanked by a pair of bell towers. The walls are almost a meter thick and are still in good condition. The emblem of the Augustinian order is carved in low-relief at the main door.

Inside are three altar retablos each containing the images of St. King Ferdinand, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and St. Joseph. The layout of the church follows a Latin cross plan and looks similar to the Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church in El Pardo, Cebu City.

Perhaps because of the twin belfry but the design of the two churches are different from each other.
