The Blog

I started this blog on January 1, 2007 to help create an awareness about the many heritage sites in Cebu. When we speak of built heritage in Cebu, what usually comes into our mind is the Magellan’s Cross or perhaps Fort San Pedro or the Basilica of the Sto. Niño. Not many know that in some nooks of the city lie heritage structures waiting to be discovered and appreciated. Unfortunately, a great number of these built structures are in a sorry state due to neglect given that many don’t know of its value.

I use a lot of references to augment my knowledge regarding a particular site’s history and significance. Connections with various personalities of authority, such as authors, researchers and those in the field, play a significant role too. My favorite books include “Simbahan” by Regalado Trota Jose, “Angels in Stone” by Fr. Pedro Galende, OSA, and “Great Churches of the Philippines” by Fr. Rene Javellana, SJ, et al. I still struggle with my grammar and I’m not an acclaimed writer or editor so I ask for your indulgence for any blunder committed.

I welcome feedbacks. You may contact me at knightcarl [at] cebuheritage [dot] com or just simply leave a message at the comments box below.

I am a registered nurse based in Cebu City and currently working at a healthcare management company. Ever since I was a child I have always been fascinated about heritage and architecture. There’s something unique about it that enables me to appreciate the legacies left behind by those who came before us. Some of the earlier photos here were shot with a 3.2 MP point-and-shoot camera. I still have to upgrade to a dSLR though when the right time (and budget) comes, hehe. :P

Hi - I’m an Australian archaeologist working in heritage management/education currently in Cebu because my son has been in hospital here. We have another couple of weeks before he is OK to travel, and I am keen to see some Cebuan heritage and maybe meet some local heritage workers. You site is a good start, but any suggestions welcome.
